Summary
Poker Plex’s mother company is Bingo Entertainment, one of the foremost internet bingo companies, using the CryptoLogic software. The players here tend to be inexperienced and hold on to their cards longer, meaning most games still have a high percentage of players in at the flop; this tends to result in higher pots. For a more experienced player, this can be a good site to make money. The software can occasionally be slow and the size of the tables means that it is difficult to play multi tables as they overlap. The screens do however show instant hand histories which can be useful.
Games
Poker Plex has the usual selection of games, featuring the popular Texas hold’em, Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi-Lo, and seven card stud. All the games feature fixed limit tables, with wide limits ranging from 15c - $300. As well as fixed limit games Texas hold’em also has the choice of no-limit and pot-limit, with both Omaha versions offering pot-limit games. However, players can not create there own tables so at peak times there may be a wait for a place, and it also makes playing multiple tables problematic. The average number of players at peak times is between 2200-2400 at both the tables and tournaments.
Navigation
Personally I found the site lacked something compared to other CryptoLogic sites, particularly in the graphics of the home page. The table layout is clear and the lobby allows you to see the tables in play, the stakes, the number of players, wait time, average pot, hours in play and the flop %. The table views are large so when playing multiple games overlapping is unavoidable, multi-play is also problematic because of the short intervals between hands and in order to access Ecash, the cashier facility, all tables must be closed.
Bonuses/Promotions
Poker Plex has one of the best monthly bonuses at $50, which is earned after playing 250 raked hands. For hands to count though, you must go to the cashier before the expiry date, otherwise you will lose them as your balance is updated when you check your balance on Ecash. Poker Plex recently signed up for the MPP (My Poker Points) which reward loyalty through raked hands; a raked hand being a hand that has taken at least $1/£1 as rake. A rake under $1/£1 and above 25c/25p will count as a quarter rake towards your bonus. As long as you have been dealt cards in the hand you do not have to have contributed to the pot in order for it to count towards your bonus. These points can be used as entry into tournaments. Poker Plex also has a proposition player program where players are paid $10 per hour for up to 2 hours to play at certain tables that are new or short handed. There are also Happy Hour promotions, monthly competitions, a bad beat jackpot that increases daily and a Royal Flush bonus of $500 provided both hole cards are used.
Rake
Compared to other sites the rake at Polar Plex is quite high at 5% on every pot over £5/$5, up to a maximum of £3/$3. They operate a no flop, no drop policy, so no rake is taken from pots where the game doesn’t reach the flop. Games can be played in euros, dollars or sterling. However, as the rake does not change based on currency rates but instead is either, for example, $2 or£2, it may be best to play in dollars in high stake games to avoid paying a higher rake than is necessary.
Deposits/Withdrawals
Deposits can be made with most major credit cards, cheques, money orders or a variety of online transfer options. A pin is required to take cash out which should be sent out by post after the first deposit is made. The options for taking cash out are credit cards, wire transfer cheque and a limited variety of online transfer options.
Customer Service
There is also 24 hour customer support if needed, both by email and telephone.
